Adventures of a Connipton Cowboy

"Hallooo!" you holler from your circle of firelight.

The regular hoof poundings slow to a trot. They come towards you - four of them, you reckon - and circle around the fire, staying just outside the light so you can't see their faces. You blink, confused, and try to keep an eye on all of them at once.

They laugh and pull up. One dismounts and steps into the light. He's big - maybe 6'4 - and handsome in a pale, blond way, but the raw red scar running from the corner of his left eye to the corner of his mouth takes the edge off the angel face.

"What do you want? And furthermore..." he spits, his eyes narrowing dangerously. "What the heck are you lookin' at?"

"Nothin' sir! Why, nothin' at all!" you stammer

Maybe if you warn them about the men that seemed to be looking for trouble at Connipton they'll take it as a kindness. On the other hand, they might take it as a threat. Maybe best to make 'em laugh with a joke. Or say nothing.
